Form 4 Ng Suet Man passed the written assessment and practical examination and successfully completed The Astronomical Training Programme for Secondary Students (Nov 2022 – May 2023).
This programme is recognized by the Science Academy for Young Talent, CUHK. Students who passed the program with satisfactory result are awarded two credits in the Science Academy for Young Talent, CUHK.
I am glad to be one of the participants of the “23rd Astronomical Training Program for Secondary School”, which was co-organised by the Hong Kong Space Museum, the Department of Physics, CUHK, and the Hong Kong Astronomical Society. It was a tough competition among the applicants and fortunately I was selected as a member to step into this unforgettable journey. From this half-year programme, I have gained knowledge about astronomy which is beyond the curriculum. We explored the milky way and the gorgeous view of the Eagle Nebula. The familiar moon was not just a glowing circle like how we see, it is a sphere with lunar maria which is impossible for us to observe with bare eyes from earth. The sun, if to say radiating brightness on the earth’s surface, the view from space is a solar prominence like a blazing fireball. Being shocked and surprised is not enough to convey my excitement after learning so much about the space. It is unbelievable how nature is able to create such wonderful and colossal objects, when under comparison we are just as small as particles - and space still has the capacity to be explored. I would like to thank Dr. Leung, Mr. Yu, and Dr. Ma for taking us on this breathtaking adventure, allowing us to learn more about space and nature that is ever beyond human’s understanding. I would also like to thank our school for encouraging me to join different gifted education courses to widen my horizons. Form 4 Ng Suet Man |
The Astronomical Training Programme for Secondary Students is co-organised by the Hong Kong Space Museum, the Department of Physics, CUHK, and the Hong Kong Astronomical Society. It provides a comprehensive training in astronomy to local full-time Secondary 4 and Secondary 5 students. It aims to cultivate and promote students' interests in natural science.
Through an array of diversified activities with equal emphasis on theory and practical skills, ATPSS will enhance students' understanding of astronomy and boost their science literacy. More importantly, by nurturing students' abilities in problem-solving and organisation of activities, ATPSS hopes the students can apply what they have learnt in the programme to help promoting astronomy in schools.
Our school encourages students to participate in various gifted programmes:
